Trauma
When we think of trauma, we tend to think that trauma is something that war veterans or people of war-torn countries experience, but trauma is the experience of any event in someone's life that negatively impacts them. It could be physical, sexual or emotional abuse or neglect, hearing or seeing a negative event where someone else was hurt, or seeing your pet hurt, or grandparent pass away. Whatever the event, it causes a disruption in being able to function in a healthy way. Without treatment, it can manifest into mental health issues, substance use, or physical illness. No matter how long ago the event occurred, you can use these skills to help alleviate the impact.
